Ten Years of Putting Pen to Paper

Ten years ago, and six years into Personal Money Manager™, I put pen to paper, starting a blog and a newsletter, “Notes for Trusted Advisors.”

Creating content.

Truthfully, I had been resistant to having a business newsletter, even a blog, From the Desk of Personal Money Manager™.  You see, my first job out of college and at several other times in my career, I’ve worked as a writer/journalist.  I was afraid that early in Personal Money Manager™ I’d be spending an inordinate amount of time “creating content.”  Writing comes easily to me, and I enjoy the process.  But it would keep me in my office chair.  I needed to be out of my office connecting with other professionals and seniors, educating myself as a financial organizer / daily money manager, and doing all of the other activities small businesses require to be successful.

Ten years ago, I finally made peace with the time commitment of writing regular blogs and newsletters and balancing the writing with client appointments and meeting with colleagues.  I started my first almost-monthly newsletter and this website-based blog.

Connecting with readers.

It’s been a wonderful way to share tips and tricks, deeper insights, and client experiences.  Many of you were with me from the start.  My subscriber list has grown to over one thousand trusted advisors.  (If you are not receiving my email newsletter and would like to, please let me know and I’ll add you to my subscriber list.)

Some readers tune in each time.  Some notice that a new edition has arrived in your e-mail box but don’t have the opportunity to read it regularly.  Others shoot me back an email or text to say my storytelling or tips resonated with them or they learned something new.  A few of you quote my words back to me when we see each other in person.  My brother points out when my memory of something Mom or Dad said or did doesn’t quite match his recollection . . .  It’s always a welcome bonus to hear back from “my readers”!

Our shared goal.

Of course, no matter the level of engagement, you are ALL appreciated.  We are in the trenches together, working hard for our senior clients and their family members, sharing our successes and lessons learned along with the touching or funny moments we experience in the course of our work.

On that note, thanks for reading along.  I’m enjoying my “sweet sixteen” years as Personal Money Manager™. I look forward to many more years working together.

P.S.  My blogs and newsletters often touch on similar topics.  Feel free to share what you find!
